Week of May 29th, 2006
Over the last week, Southern California Edison and Verizon continued their dry utility work at the West Covina Sportsplex site while the gas company completed their utility work by installing on-site equipment and cutting-over service. During the workweek of May 15th, the proposed Big League Dreams site of the West Covina Sportsplex underwent continuous mass grading as construction workers continued to excavate excess material such as oversized boulders. This past week, West Covina Sportsplex construction efforts were highlighted by grading on the proposed Big League Dreams Sports Park site as well as the dry utility groundwork completed on Azusa Avenue. For the average passer-by, these are among the most visible aspects of Sportsplex construction efforts, and are critical elements of progress for the project.
Mass grading of the Big League Dreams Sports Park continues along the North Rim and South Slope of the site as the amount of dirt for removal has been estimated at 75% complete through April.
The latest utility work has involved trenching East-West across Azusa Avenue with respect to Verizon and Southern California Edison dry utility lines. Workers have pumped out flooded Southern California Edison vaults as well as drilled for the purpose of conduit tie-ins.
Week of May 1st, 2006
The last week of construction work at the West Covina Sportsplex site involved saturating the North slope of the top deck in order to prepare a place for the relocation of a gas header. On Azusa Avenue, vaults were being cleaned in anticipation of an upcoming Southern California Edison inspection, and boring work was underway on the Home Depot pad as well as the slide area.
