DAY CARE TEACHER (Part-time/Limited Services)
This position is located at various elementary school sites as part of the West Covina's before/after school Day Care Program (grades K-5). This is a part-time position without benefits that may work up to 30 hours per week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education:
(1) Graduation from high school, GED, or equivalent and (2) Completion of a minimum of 6 semester units (or 9 quarter units) in Early Childhood Education/Child Development (ECE/CD) at an accredited college or university.
Note: Transcripts documenting completion of required ECE/CD units must be provided at the time of interview.
Upon hire, the selected candidate must show continuous enrollment in ECE/CD courses until 12 semester units (or 15 quarter units) have been completed.
Experience:
One (1) year experience as a teacher of children such as a teacher's aide, assistant, student intern or other comparable experience including six (6) months work experience in a licensed day care center is required.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
Current copies of the following licenses and/or certificates will be required at the time of hire:
- Valid California Class "C" Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record
- CPR and First Aid Certification for the Professional Rescuer
DUTIES
Assists in the planning, supervising, coordination and implementation of the activities of the day care program; responsible for training and evaluating part-time personnel in the day care program; provides direct supervision of Assistants working in the day cares; plans organizes and conducts programs for children at the day care center; works closely with parents to promote an understanding of growth and development of their child; participates in assessment and evaluation of ongoing departmental requirements; prepares routine and special reports; participates in the promotion of departmental activities; responsible for maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations and performs other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned.
SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates deemed most qualified will be invited to participate in a panel
interview. An eligibility list (Band 1, 2 and 3) will be established based on
interview scores. Prior to the first day of work, selected candidates must
pass a physical exam and undergo a background clearance pursuant to state
licensing regulations.
FINAL FILING DATE
A City of West Covina Application for employment and the required
supplemental questionnaire will be accepted on a continuous basis until the needs of the City are met.
Apply to the City of West Covina Human Resources Department. A City application is required. Qualified candidates will be notified at a later time with the date and place of the examination.
Under the City's examination procedure, failure on any part of the announced examination will be grounds for disqualification of an applicant.
Applicants requiring special accommodations for testing must notify the Human Resources Department prior to test administration consistent with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Prior to the first day of employment, selected candidates will be required to pass a background fingerprint (live scan) and physical exam which will include a drug screen.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS - PART-TIME
EMPLOYEE PAID HEALTH PLAN - All part-time employees have the option of purchasing a limited medical, dental, and vision plan provided through the City by Integrated Health Benefits.
MEDICARE - The City of West Covina is part of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) agency and does not make any contributions towards social security. However, the City does contribute 1.45% of gross salary towards Medicare.
PART-TIME, SEASONAL, and TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES - DEFERRED COMPENSATION
The City withholds 7.5% of gross salary per pay period on a tax-deferred basis that can be used at separation or towards retirement. Administered by NATIONWIDE.
