FOOD SERVICE WORKER
(DISHWASHER)

This position works at our Senior Center located at 2501 E. Cortez Avenue and is a part-time position without benefits. A typical work shift would be from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and cannot exceed more than 30 hours a week.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Six months experience working in the food service industry is required. Must have experience working with the public and possess the ability to communicate in English both orally and in writing. A valid California Class "C" Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is preferred.

DUTIES
Working under the general direction of the Head Cook, the Food Service Worker works as the dishwasher and assists in the food preparation, serving and cleaning up of the kitchen at the Senior Center. Duties include: serving food at the counter; setting up and moving equipment as necessary; assisting with kitchen clean-up and maintenance. This position may perform other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned including but not limited to: city-wide events, day care, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, aquatics, facility management, senior citizen programs, and other related services.

SELECTION PROCESS
Candidates meeting the minimum requirements will have their qualifications screened and those candidates deemed most qualified based on the information provided on their City application, will be invited to participate in a panel interview. An eligibility list will be established based on interview scores and candidates will be selected based on those scores. Prior to the first day of work, selected candidates must pass a background and physical examination.

FINAL FILING DATE
A City Application is required. OPEN UNTIL FILLED. First review of applications: 4/25/08.

Qualified candidates will be notified at a later date regarding the time and place of the examination.

Under the City's examination procedure, failure on any part of the announced examination will be grounds for disqualification of an applicant.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS - PART-TIME

EMPLOYEE PAID HEALTH PLAN - All part-time employees have the option of purchasing a limited medical, dental, and vision plan provided through the City by Integrated Health Benefits.

MEDICARE - The City of West Covina is part of the Public Employees Retirement System (PERS) agency and does not make any contributions towards social security. However, the City does contribute 1.45% of gross salary towards Medicare.

PART-TIME, SEASONAL, and TEMPORARY EMPLOYEES - DEFERRED COMPENSATION
The City withholds 7.5% of gross salary per pay period on a tax-deferred basis that can be used at separation or towards retirement. Administered by NATIONWIDE.
