ASSISTANT POOL MANAGER

Job Summary

Under direction of the Pool Manager, assists in the overall operation of a public swimming pool, organizes and oversees planned aquatics activities, implements the planned program established for a municipal swimming pool, insures sanitary and safe operations at all times and does related work as required.

Essential Functions
  1. Assists Pool Manager with supervising aquatic activities and staff at a municipal swimming pool.

  2. Assists with enforcing established rules and regulations governing the safe use of the pool.

  3. Assigns, supervises, and trains Lifeguards and instructors in all phases of swimming, diving, and life saving of varying age groups.

  4. Organizes and coaches water sports.

  5. Assists with preparing reports, attendance, and daily deposits.

  6. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.

  7. Enforce water safety rules and regulations.

  8. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

  9. May perform other duties in support of the Community Services Department as assigned including but not limited to: city-wide events, day care, youth and adult sports, teen programs, recreation classes, aquatics, facility management, senior citizen programs, and other related services.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of:
Swimming, diving, and aquatic sports; competitive programs and special event shows; proper instruction methods; principles of supervision and training; basic pool chemical testing and health and safety standards.

Ability to:

Instruct and work with the public; supervise and train subordinates in all phases of their duties and in public relations.

Education and Experience Guidelines

Qualifying for consideration in the selection process will be based on the description listed above under Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities, and any combination of education and experience as described below.

Education: Graduation from high school or GED is required.

Experience: Two years of responsible part-time experience in municipal swimming pool operation, at the Lifeguard Instructor level (preferably at a public pool).

Licenses/Certificates

A valid California Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record is required.

Possession of an American Red Cross or any other Community Services Department approved accredited certification in Lifeguarding including First Aid and CPR for the Professional Rescuer, and Water Safety Instructor (WSI).

Physical Profile - Category IV:

Positions in this category are involved in active public safety duties, which involve the safeguarding of individuals, public and property. Incumbents are required to meet the required moderate physical exertion associated with the ability to dive, lift, carry, push, pull or climb.
