EQUIPMENT MAINTENANCE SUPERVISOR
Job Summary
Under general direction of Superintendent of Maintenance Operations, directs and supervises the activities, operations, and personnel engaged in the maintenance and repair of automotive and heavy equipment; and does related work as required.
Essential Functions
- Develops and administers a preventative maintenance program for all City vehicles; interfaces with City departments to determine transportation needs.
- Secures bids and estimates for new or existing vehicles and heavy equipment.
- Assigns and supervises repair work and inspects jobs in progress; determines priorities of repairs; coordinates repairs with outside vendors.
- Supervises and evaluates subordinate personnel.
- Assists in formulation of budget estimates for equipment, materials, and personnel.
- Follows tests and procedures established by the National Board of Fire Underwriters in the inspection and maintenance of fire apparatus.
- Prepares and assists in the development of equipment specifications.
- Ensures that operator/user maintenance is performed on assigned and shop equipment.
- Ensures that safe operating practices and procedures are communicated and complied with routinely.
- Estimates and requisitions materials and supplies.
Non-essential Functions
- Maintains records of time, equipment and costs.
- May be responsible for overseeing the activities of personnel engaged in various other skilled craft operations, such as welding.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Knowledges
Extensive knowledge of all types of automotive, construction, and fire equipment, including engine, chassis, body, and appurtenances; the techniques and practices of testing, overhaul, repair, and servicing of all types of equipment used in the City. Working knowledge of principles of supervision; training; work scheduling; and safe work practices and procedures applicable with CAL-OSHA regulations.
Education: Courses or specified training in auto mechanics and
heavy equipment repair.
Experience: Four (4) years of journey-level mechanic experience in automotive or equipment repair, including two years of lead or supervisory experience.
Licenses: Possession of a valid Class C California Driver's License and satisfactory driving record.
