-Police Computer Enterprise Saves Taxpayer Dollars-
The West Covina Police Department is well known in Police circles as innovative and technologically advanced. One of the driving forces behind the reputation is the Department's Computer Enterprise Program. Not only does the police department run its own computer system, it runs, for a profit, the computer systems of twenty-five other Police agencies.

From as far away as Minnesota, and as close as El Monte the "client" police agencies have signed more than one million dollars in contracts to date. The money generated by the entrepreneurial enterprise pays for the salaries and equipment needed to keep our Police Department on the leading edge of technology. The Computer Enterprise Fund now pays the salaries of four of the Police Department's employees, two of whom were paid for by the City's general fund just one year ago.

The "product" offered by the Police Department to other agencies covers automating records, dispatching and fire services. It also offers electronic mail, word processing, in-car computer systems (like those enjoyed by West Covina officers) and local area networks. Services offered to client agencies covers everything from wiring the facility to training employees. The client agencies also have 24 hour, seven days a week support and assistance.

The Computer Enterprise was started one year ago with five client agencies. There are now 25 agencies on contract with six more waiting to join. The West Covina Police Department has found and filled a need in many police departments. In return the West Covina Police Department enjoys what some describe as the most efficient police computer system on the market, at no cost to West Covina's taxpaying public.
