STRUCTURE FIRE - CITY OF WEST COVINA
WEST COVINA, CA - December 19, 2006 - At 1134 hours the West Covina Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at a single-family residence in the 700 block of N. Sunset Ave in the City of West Covina. Arriving West Covina Police units assisted an 80 year-old male resident of the home to safety.

First arriving police officers performed exceptionally, removing the elderly resident from danger, who was unaware of the fast moving fire, and relaying vital information to incoming firefighters to prevent any delay in firefighting activities.

Initial West Covina firefighters found heavy fire and smoke conditions to the rear of the home. It took 16 West Covina Firefighters approximately 6 minutes to control the blaze. Contained to the rear patio room and living room areas of the home the fire caused approximately 25,000 dollars in damage.

One firefighter was injured during the incident when bitten by a dog at the residence. Injuries sustained were minor and the firefighter was transported to Queen of the Valley Hospital where he remains in good condition. The occupant was not injured during the fire. The cause of the fire has not been determined and is currently under investigation.
