GRAND OPENING OF THE HOME DEPOT STORE AT THE HEIGHTS COMMERCIAL/RETAIL CENTER
WEST COVINA, CA - The Home Depot, the City of West Covina, the West Covina Community Development Commission ("CDC") and West Covina Heights ("Developer") are pleased to announce the grand opening of The Home Depot at The Heights shopping center located at 2220 South Azusa Avenue in West Covina, California. The Home Depot will be hosting its public Neighborhood Night Celebration and Grand Opening Ceremony on April 2, 2008 at 5:00 p.m. The Home Depot will open its doors for business on April 3, 2008 at 6:00 a.m.
The Heights is the commercial/retail center component of the West Covina Sportsplex, a project spearheaded by the City Council to remove blight while simultaneously creating a point of destination within the community. The City Council's vision, which required extensive coordination with Federal, State and Local regulatory agencies, has led to the transformation of the former BKK landfill site from a negative impact eyesore into a revenue-generating asset for the community.
The Home Depot will serve as one of two anchor tenants at The Heights commercial/retail center. The Home Depot began its construction of the store in May of 2007 and will open its doors for business on April 3, 2008. The CDC assisted in the development of The Heights commercial center through the purchase and sale of property, as well as entitlement assistance. In addition, the CDC negotiated with the Developer of The Heights commercial center to bring The Home Depot in as an anchor tenant at the site.
The Home Depot at The Heights is approximately 130,000 square feet in size and will include a 15,000 square foot garden center, tool rental center and state-of-the-art display centers. According to Home Depot representatives, The Home Depot at The Heights has created approximately 125 new jobs, and will contribute approximately $400,000 in annual sales tax to the city. Additionally by the store as one of the main anchor tenants it is helping to revitalize that area of the city.
"On behalf of The Home Depot and all of our associates who are mostly new hires from the local community we are excited about our new home here in West Covina. The Home Depot is committed to establishing positive relationships with our customers, supporting the community, and providing a first-class shopping experience," said Irma Gonzales, The Home Depot Store Manager.
"The City of West Covina is very proud of The Heights Shopping Center. This new development, with The Home Depot as an anchor tenant is providing our residents with outstanding retail choices. We are especially delighted to be opening West Covina's first The Home Depot in our community," said Mayor Sherri Lane. "We look forward to many years of partnership with The Home Depot. The new store exemplifies the spirit of serving and providing for the communities their stores are located within."
