CONGRESSWOMAN SOLIS TO PRESENT A CHECK TO WEST COVINA FOR UPGRADES TO CITY COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
WEST COVINA, CA - On Monday, April 7, 2008, at 10:00 am, at the West Covina City Hall (1444 W. Garvey Avenue) Congresswoman Hilda L. Solis will present a check to the City of West Covina in the amount of $514,000.

These funds will be utilized for much needed upgrades to the Public Safety Radio System that is presently over 20 years old and obsolete. The current system is not reliable and does not allow the City's Police and Fire Departments to communicate with each other nor with other departments/agencies in neighboring cities. The new system will be a digital trunk radio system that will allow full interoperability of City public safety units and those of surrounding cities.

The funding was approved as part of a large appropriations bill that includes funding for the federal government. "This funding will help ensure that residents have the needed services and tools to improve their lives," said Congresswoman Solis.

West Covina Mayor Sheri Lane commented, "The City of West Covina is very excited and appreciative of Congresswoman Solis' efforts to help secure federal funding to replace our antiquated public safety radio system".

Mayor Lane extends an invitation to the public to attend this Monday's media event, when the City will be expressing appreciation for Congresswoman Solis' assistance to secure these important federal funds.
