Disaster Mitigation Act Survey
To Citizens of West Covina

The City of West Covina is in the process of completing its Disaster Mitigation Act Plan. The Plan must be submitted to, and approved by, the Federal Emergency Management Administration by November 2004.

All state and local agencies must have an approved mitigation plan in place prior to receiving post-disaster Hazard Mitigation Grant Program funds (HMGP). Local mitigation plans must demonstrate that their proposed mitigation measures are based on a sound planning process that accounts for the risk to and the capabilities of the individual communities. All plans will be used to assist communities in reducing risk from natural hazards.

The fire department of West Covina has been given the lead on this project and as such is heading up the Steering Committee composed of other key City employees and Department Heads. All will work together to design and develop all aspects of the plan.

One process necessary to complete the plan involves input from the citizens of the community; therefore we need your input. As a citizen of this community you are a stakeholder in this process. Your input is important and of great value to the completion of a successful and well-designed plan.

The attached questionnaire is designed as not only part of the planning process, but also to help you realize how prepared you are in the event of a natural hazard to your home and community.
